Horse Rescue Stories

In April 2011 two horses and a shetland pony were part of an SPCA cruelty seizure that also involved some other smaller animals. The horses were in a very small turn-out that was deep with mud, possibly as deep as the horses knees as there was mud caked onto them almost to the knee level. The three horses had been kept together in the shelter and the shetland pony stallion (since gelded by the SPCA) was the leader of the little herd and would not let the TB mare and the Standie gelding near what little food there was.

Now we will share the story of their journey to return to good physical and mental health and to finding their ' Forever Home '.

Storm and Thunder

Storm went to her new home very close by here in Matsqui. She will be an equine partner to an experienced young horse woman for trail riding and going on adventures together. They will be spending summers up in a Merritt ranch with many other horses and friends and family. Storm has a lovely new large shelter with a big field to play in and a new larger field being fenced behind the shelter. She will have the companionship of an older gelding and we wish her much joy and love in her new forever home.

Storm and Thunder

June 29, 2011...

Thunder has gone to his new home in Maple Ridge where he will be sharing four acres of fields to run in with another gelding and mare. He will be patiently trained up as a trail riding horse for a wonderful and experienced gentleman. Thunder's remarkable change with us will be remembered by all our volunteers, and we are all just thrilled he has gone to a great, forever home, and that we could be part of this second chance for him.

Spike was not with us for long, his cute looks, sweet personality and puppy dog energy had lots of people interested in him right away! He has gone to a family home in 150 Mile House, where they have four mares for company, and acres of pasture and treed areas and a lake. He will be professionally trained to be a riding horse for their 5 yr old daughter. The family is very horse experienced, and take wonderful care of their animals, and provide forever homes. All of us so enjoyed our time with Spike, it was wonderful having a little horse around with so much love to give!
